Massage Types

Which Type of Massage is Right for You?

Swedish Massage

To relax and relieve stress

The Swedish method of massage is probably the most commonly known technique used today for soothing relaxation and stress relief. Depending on how it is delivered, Swedish massage can either energize or relax the body using a variety of techniques. The levels of pressure , types of strokes, intensity, depth, frequency, and duration of percussion on soft tissues will vary based on the therapist and therapeutic need. Your skilled therapist will evaluate and discuss the best options for your needs for each session.

Deep Tissue Massage

Used for excessively tight muscles

Deep Tissue massage is generally performed at a slower pace with an emphasis on deeper pressure in focused areas to help relive hypertonic or "stuck" muscles. This method may often be uncomfortable or painful in some areas. It may also cause you to feel sore or bruised for several days after treatment. However, the benefits of this technique will often leave you with greater mobility and less 'achy' muscles once the initial soreness from the massage has dissipated. This technique is not recommended to be received for more than twice a week, as it takes time for the muscles to heal and regenerate after each session. The most commonly requested areas for this modality is the upper back and shoulders,

as it is where much of our stress is stored, and can be performed in other areas as needed.

Cupping

To increase blood flow, stimulate lymph flow, and to help relieve fascial restrictions

Cupping uses a variety of different types of suction cups to pull stagnant impurities from the deeper tissues into the lymph for disposal. Cupping will also help stimulate and increase blood flow, lymph flow, and interstitial circulation. Cupping is frequently combined with a Swedish massage to help loosen the muscles before it's application.

Benefits of cupping include circulation stimulation, alleviate adhesions, help clear congestion and stagnation from skin, muscles, bones, joints, organs, and even negative energies. It helps to reduce or eliminate cellulite and lifts and rehydrates fascia. Cupping encourages the body's own process of regeneration to aid in healing and alleviates excessive pressure on soft tissues leading to reduced pain.

As with any massage, due to the detoxification process, you may feel slightly feverish after a cupping session. There is no need to be concerned. This is your body's defense system dealing with all of the impurities that have been trapped in your system. They are now being released into your system and are in the process of being eliminated.

Lymphatic Drainage Benefits and Contraindications

Lymphatic Drainage

Often performed after an injury, or surgery to help reduce swelling

Lymphatic drainage is a gentle, rhythmic massage that uses precise pressure and rhythm to open the primary lymph node groups and stimulate lymphatic vessel contraction. This process will reduce edema and encourages the natural circulation of lymph throughout the body. Lymph massage strokes do not push down and slide over the skin as is typically performed in other massage modalities. Instead your skilled therapist will gently press and pump the lymph, just beyond the skin's surface in the direction of your major node groups, without pushing down on the muscle tissue itself. This technique  can be very relaxing and quite beneficial, even if you are not experiencing any noticeable swelling.

The lymph in our bodies may be described as our garbage disposal system as it is responsible for filtering and eliminating toxins that tend to accumulate over time. In many cases, these toxins are now being systematically removed from your system, naturally. As a result, you will begin to feel better, have more energy, and may even begin to look and feel younger.

Lymphatic drainage technique is used to reduce fluid accumulation and retention, helps to relief symptoms of sinusitis and allergies, helps with pain associated with inflammation, assists with recovery pre and post surgery, alleviates symptoms of digestive disorders, helps with migraines, lymphedema, sports injuries, relieves stress and fatigue, and orthopedic care. Lymphatic drainage may be performed as a full body routine or just for targeted areas.

Contraindications for Lymphatic Drainage MassageFor your safety and the effectiveness of treatment, lymphatic drainage massage is not recommended for individuals with the following conditions, unless cleared by a physician: acute infections or fever, active cancer or undergoing chemotherapy, deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or blood clots, congestive heart failure (CHF), kidney failure or severe renal conditions, uncontrolled high blood pressure, recent major surgery or open wounds, acute inflammation or skin infections in treatment area.

We encourage all clients to consult with their healthcare provider if they have any underlying health conditions prior to booking this service.

Please note: Regardless of which massage modality you choose, a single session may only give you temporary relief. It is strongly recommended that massage be received as often as practical, until your body responds and loosens on its own. The therapeutic process may take weeks, or even months, depending on the problem being addressed. Once your goal has been achieved, a massage is recommended at least once or twice a month to maintain a healthy balance.
